Central Texas gets spring thunderstorms, summer wind, and the occasional winter ice storm, and each one tests the trees around your house. A quick walk around the yard can catch most problems before they become an emergency.
Look up for dead branches without leaves, cracks or splits where large limbs meet the trunk, and limbs resting on or hanging over the roof. Look down for mushrooms or soft wood at the base, soil heaving on one side, or a tree that has started to lean.
Limbs over the roof are the biggest risk. Even healthy branches that rub the shingles wear them down, and a heavy limb can come through the roof in high wind. Cutting them back before storm season is cheaper than a roof repair after.
If a tree does come down, stay away from any wires and call the utility first. Then call us. José Tree Service takes storm and emergency calls 24/7 at (512) 563-0445, and because we also repair fences and roofs, we can take care of the damage along with the tree.
